London: Arthur Gray, 1936. First / First. Hardback. A very good copy in a good jacket. Some loss to the upper corner, and lower spine on the jacket. Edgewear, chipping and a few short tears elsewhere. Some tape to the jacket reverse. Book a little bumped to the spine tips and some light foxing to the top edge. From the jacket flap: "There seem to be few authors these days who set out to tell a plain, swiftly-moving story with-out unnecessary trimmings. 'Horror Castle' is written with this laudable object in view. It does not guarantee to make the reader tremble with terror or baffle the intellect by cunningly-concealed clues and irritating challenges to name a criminal, but for everyone who desires to spend a few stimulating hours with a book that sweeps irresistibly along to the accompaniment of a satisfying amount of murder and sudden death and a touch of the macabre it can be heartily recommended. Crisp action is the key-note of this absorbing pursuit of the rather terrifying Witch of Hessendine and her revolting, hunchbacked son into which two friends and a girl are drawn by circumstance, and through a restless kaleidoscope of scenes it proceeds with an ever-quickening interest that simply will not let you put the book down. A 'thriller,' undoubtedly, but a pleasant 'thriller' and one which leaves the reader tingling and slightly breathless. " Very Good / Good. Item #13498
