Highly influenced by Wells, whom Zamyatin had translated. The book was first published in 1924 in English, by Dutton. It wasn't until 1988 that it was final published in Russia. This translation, the second published translation (preceded by two editions both translated by Gregory Zilboorg), is by Bernard Guilbert Guerney. An introduction and bibliographic note by Michael Glenny. The book was inducted into the Prometheus Award's hall of fame in 1994.
