Caesar's Column: A Story of the Twentieth Century

London: Frederick Warne, 1891. First / First. Paperback. A very good copy. First British edition, maybe. There was a Sampson, Low edition which appears to be the authorised issue, suggesting this isn't authorised. The Sampson Low edition apparently has ads dated October 1890 (the US first edition was published in 1890). Uncommon though. An important American dystopia; or utopia to some extent; or even a utopia collapsing to dystopia. Set in the year 1988 the story involves a trip to a New York city replete with technological wonders only to find a descent into the brutality of the oligarchies. Pretty standard stuff. A nice enough copy with some loss to the lower spine, some foxing to the wrappers and a reading lean. Internally pretty good with some foxing to the first few leaves. Very Good. Item #10726
