Jean de Brunhoff was a French writer and illustrator who co-created Babar the Elephant, the stories having been told originally to their son by his wife Cecile. After Jean's death, the son, Laurent de Brunhoff, continued the series. The first seven titles were reprinted in abridged form, with only 30 pages per book rather than the original 48.
