BB' was the pseudonym used by Denys James Watkins-Pitchford, an author and illustrator of countryside books for both adults and children. His career began when he obtained the position of Art Master at Rugby School, during which time he wrote his first book, Wild Lone. It was an immediate success and invited comparisons with the writing of Henry Williamson. While his books were written under the name 'BB', he always signed his illustrations with his real name.
