Biography
(b.1805 d.1875)
Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen can be said to have created the Fairy Story genre single-handedly. Following the example of Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, who collected traditional tales, Anderson invented new stories for children and gave the world 'The Ugly Duckling', 'The Emporer's New Clothes', 'The Princess and The Pea', etc. Although he was also a novelist, poet, dramatist and travel-writer, his fairy stories are his legacy to the history of literature.
