An author of detective fiction from its 'Golden Age', whose principal hero is an urbane, aristocratic adventurer known as Albert Campion. Her first novel, Blackerchief Dick, was written while she was still in her teens. Allingham's artist husband Philip Youngman Carter designed the d/ws of some twenty of her books.
