Richard Adams is a British novelist whose sophisticated fantasy novels are often concerned with man's cruelty to animals. Watership Down won the Guardian Award and Carnegie Medal. The first issue of his The Girl in a Swing was withdrawn through fear of libel, and among the changes made was the name of the heroine.
