Biography

(b.1896 d.1967)

For many years the literary editor of The Listener, Ackerley encouraged several young writers, including Auden, Isherwood and Spender. His own literary output was small, but candid and frank. My Father and Myself, which deals with his experiences of 'coming- out' as a gay man, is considered by many to be his masterpiece. He also edited Escapers All (Bodley Head, London, 1932).
