I try to keep an eye on what the latest eBook developments mean for the book collector and what this means is still unclear. The story revolves around the literary agent Andrew Wylie and his move to create an all-digital imprint for the authors of whom his company own the rights. The plan also involves providing exclusivity of content to Amazon. One side of the argument is condemning the move as a strike to the entire industry and the other side is saying it's a response to publishers offering unfair royalties on electronic publications.

Publishers should be scared, they're big business and they've spent a lot of years building up the complexities that are involved in publishing and now it's a free for all with everybody trying to make land grabs. There will be casualties. But, what does it mean for us, the book collectors. Well, books will likely have smaller print runs and production costs may therefore go up. That could trigger a rise in general in the market. It'll be interesting to follow, but my money's on sticking with the smaller publishers and seeing what they come up with.
