I don't use the word ousted lightly because that's what's happened. Skyline Books of New York City is closing its doors (get down there for bargain prices) and they blame the usual suspects, eBay, Amazon and rising rent. It's an old story, but one that very few people have been able to combat. And moving online isn't always the answer. Bricks and Mortar bookshops are essential to books, or rather social interactions formed in bookshops are essential to books (if you disagree, then get rid of your copy of Ulysses - it's doesn't exist). From what I read of Skyline books, the regulars will remember it fondly. It's always a shame when this happens and here's hoping Hyraxia can try somewhat to replicate the experience of going to a bookshop online, but it will be a difficult task.
