Hyraxia's Bookselling Service
Here at Hyraxia we find that we often get requests from readers for us to buy or sell their books. So we've decided to open it up to the masses. Welcome to the Hyraxia Bookselling Service.
Here's how it works. You send us details of the books you want to sell with full descriptions and photographs, where appropriate, and tell us how much you would like to receive for the books - either individual prices or a single price for the collection. We offer your books at those prices and can either charge a commission.
We have two choices here; a quick sale to a dealer or a longer sale via online channels.
Dealer Sale
We will evaluate your prices and determine whether our dealers will pay those prices and discuss with you where we think the price is too high - basically, we have to be realistic; a dealer won't pay market rates. Once we're agreed prices, we will contact a number of appropriate dealers we know personally on your behalf and try and get you that price or higher. We will offer full transparency on the transaction telling you how much we sold the book for and to whom - unless anonymity is requested by either party. If you wish for us to handle the payment for the transaction then this will need to be discussed separately. This is generally the quickest method for selling your books, but usually results in slightly less of a return.
The commission for this is 10% of the total sale pricee.
For large collections, buyers may wish to visit in person.
Online Sale
After agreeing on prices for the books we will start to list online and via other channels. Selling online incurs fees so we have to take this into account and our fee for this is 25%. We will offer a complete breakdown of costs incurred where requested (fees online are generally about 10% of the total, but listing fees and others can be incurred too). This method can take a lot longer, and we may need to re-evaluate prices if interest is low, but on the flip side you won't sell for less than your asking price.
Why do I need to Agree Prices with you?
If your prices are too high then your books won't sell. Hyraxia will spend time and money selling your books and, to be frank, it will be a waste if prices are too high.
What if the Books Don't Sell?
Then you don't pay any commission. Any fees or time incurred up to that point are at our expense.
How do I Know I'm Getting a Good Price?
We can share our appraisal data with you if you wish and can recommend independent appraisals, or you can always ask on the Hyraxia forums to get an unbiased view.
Can I Pay a Flat Fee?
You can if you wish, but we haven't offered this as we don't like this model. It doesn't feel right to charge you for something where you might not get any return (i.e. the book might not sell). If you'd rather know up front though, we can agree this separately. You will end up paying less for a flat fee than the fees if all your books sold, so it might be worth it.
