The majority of Hyraxia is offered for free with the exception of the First Edition Price Guides which are licensed from the Tartarus Press - subscription is charged for these items at £9.99 per annum. There are around 600 pages of price guides, each presented with a free biography page, making Hyraxia the world's largest online price guide. We went live with the site on the 1st of January 2010 and have posted approximately 500 news items and around 200 longer articles and features. The news consists mainly of short introductions to book-collecting news from other channels, but the articles are primarily unique to Hyraxia and consist of book-collecting essays, auction previews, reports and market speculation.
We believe that advertising is not just about income but also about developing the community. We only accept advertisements from companies that are relevant to Hyraxia's content and as such have turned down advertising requests in the past. We have a number of places available for advertising, each with different pricing structures. Below are the list of advertising spots and their prices. Unless otherwise stated the ad spot is available for one year which will run from the date the advert is placed (which could be in the future as and when new articles are posted).
1. Price Guide Listings (£5 per page, £20 for five pages, £50 for 20 pages)
We will include your banner below both the introductory page (public facing) and on the actual price guide page (currently only available to subscribers). The price is based on the number of hits a page is expected to get over the following year, i.e. more popular authors will cost more. This is limited to 600 pages and works on a first come first served basis.
2. News and Article Listing Banners (£5 per page, £20 for five pages, £60 for 30 pages)
When we write new articles or post news pieces we offer a banner at the bottom of the article. We will choose where to place your ad based on our knowledge of you as the advertiser, or based on your requirements. For example, if you specialise in selling Ian Fleming books then you may wish to purchase four news and article banners, and we will, at our discretion, place your banner on relevant articles. If you see an article without a banner you can request to have your banner placed on there. Banner size is 468x60 pixels.
3. Advertising on the Right Hand Menu (£5 for 50 clicks, £20 for 250 clicks, £150 unlimited clicks for one year)
Your advert will appear higher up in the page compared to news and article listing banners, which will be at the end of the document. The right hand menu ads are based on a cost per click. The ad will be 160x90 pixels. This is one of the most cost-effective advertising mechanisms, especially whilst sign up is low - for £150 you would have an advert on pretty much every page for a year.
4. Special Advertiser's Package (£100)
The special advertiser’s package includes 250 Right Hand Menu clicks, 30 article banners and a featured advert article on the front page, which will move from the top spot as other front-page articles are posted.
5. One-off feature (£50)
This is a page in the articles section outlining how your company could be beneficial to Hyraxia's readers. This feature will be circulated on the front page for a short period of time.
6. Primary Sponsor (£300)
The primary sponsor gets the same deal as the Special Advertiser's Package with an additional page in the further information section (which you can update and edit as regularly as you with) and a note in each of our newsletters. Please note that there can be only two primary sponsors.
7. Front Page Sponsor (£1000)
You get a banner at the bottom of the front page. The sponsorship is for six months and will require at least four banners for rotation. A Special Advertiser's Package is thrown in too.
8. Custom Packages (£POA)
If you want to chat about creating an advertising package then just let us know, we’ll be more than happy to help. Of course, you can get advertising for free; if you write an article we'll always include a short custom advert at the bottom of it.
